In the heart of Santo Domingo
de la Calzada, this Parador is housed in a 12th Century former hospital,
next to the Cathedral, built to house the pilgrims on the St James' way.
The majestic lounges and vestibule are regal and elegant in style, with
gothic arches and coffered celings. Furnishings are in bright colours,
blue and white, leading to tastefully decorated guest rooms, some with
canopied beds. In the Parador's restaurant, the local red peppers
must be sampled, especially stuffed, whether with black pudding or other
foods. The mixed vegetable platters are a famous product of this excellent
farming region. And naturally, everything is accompanied by the excellent
wines of La Rioja ...
